Job Description

As a Security Officer - Federal Entry Control in Portsmouth, VA , you will serve and safeguard clients in a range of industries such as Government, and more. As an Allied Universal Security Officer at a government maritime location, you will support access control operations by greeting visitors, verifying credentials, managing entry logs, and monitoring checkpoints and cameras. You will conduct routine patrols and remain highly visible to help to deter security-related incidents while delivering strong customer service and clear communication. What You'll Do:

  • Provide customer service to guests, contractors, employees, and visitors by carrying out security-related procedures, site-specific policies, and when appropriate, emergency response activities at a government location.
  • Control access at entry points by verifying identification, validating credentials, issuing temporary badges, and directing visitors to the proper check-in process.
  • Operate access control systems and maintain accurate logs of entries, exits, deliveries, and authorized visitor activity.
  • Screen persons, packages, and vehicles as required by post orders, and report prohibited items, suspicious behavior, and/or policy violations to site leadership.
  • Coordinate with client representatives and Allied Universal leadership to verify authorizations, resolve access issues, and support special events and increased traffic periods.
  • Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner, documenting actions taken and notifying appropriate contacts.
  • Conduct regular and random patrols around the business and perimeter to help to deter unauthorized access and/or suspicious activity. Working environments and conditions may vary by client site.
  • Monitor alarms, cameras, and radios as assigned, and communicate timely updates to site personnel and/or public responders when needed.
  • Complete required reports such as incident reports, daily activity reports, and shift turnover notes with clear, factual details.
  • Support emergency procedures such as evacuations, severe weather actions, and lockdown directions per site policy, assisting with accountability and controlled re-entry when authorized.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Possess a TSA Issued TWIC.
  • A guard card and/or license is preferred.
  • Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
  • Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
  • Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
  • A valid driver's license will be required for driving positions only.
