Job Description & Requirements Title: Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) – Generalist / Blood Bank
Location: Towson, MD
Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: Night Shift – 5x8-Hour (23:00–07:30), Monday–Friday
Perform routine, advanced, and complex laboratory testing as a Generalist Medical Lab Scientist in a hospital clinical laboratory
\tProvide Blood Bank coverage including ABO/Rh typing, antibody screening and identification, AHG and electronic crossmatching, antigen typing, and transfusion support
\tConduct transfusion reaction workups, Rhogam screening, cord blood evaluations, cold agglutinin testing, and blood product preparation (thawing/cooling, irradiation)
\tIndependently manage Blood Bank operations during night shifts with strong attention to patient safety and regulatory compliance
\tPerform Chemistry testing including ABGs, hormone and thyroid testing, cardiac enzymes, immunoassays, therapeutic drug monitoring, and QC review
\tPerform Hematology and Coagulation testing including CBCs, manual differentials, platelet counts, reticulocytes, fibrinogen, sickle cell prep, and sedimentation rates
\tConduct basic Microbiology and Immunology testing including gram stains, organism identification, PCR testing, rapid kits, and serologic assays
\tPerform Urinalysis (manual and automated), microscopic analysis, and crystal identification
\tAccession, process, and evaluate specimens for integrity and proper patient identification
\tMaintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and analyzers
\tPerform and document quality control, quality assurance, and compliance activities
\tAccurately report and communicate test results using Epic and laboratory information systems
\tAdhere to safety standards including hazardous material handling, specimen storage, infection control, and transmission-based precautions
\tFloat within the laboratory specialty as needed to support departmental operations
\tMinimum 2 years of recent Medical Lab Scientist experience
\tHARD STOP: Proven Blood Bank experience required
\tStrong generalist laboratory experience including Chemistry, Hematology, UA, Basic Micro, and Blood Gases
\tAbility to work independently on night shift in a fast-paced hospital environment
\tFirst-time travelers accepted
\tASCP certification required (MLS, MT, MLT, BB accepted)
\tActive Maryland state license or Compact license required at time of submission
\tBLS (AHA) – Preferred
